Bussay Pince
Zala, Hungary
After the fall of communism in 1989, Dr. László Bussay founded the Bussay winery in the hills of the mostly forgotten wine region of Zala near the Hungarian-Slovenian-Croatian border. Today, his daughter Dori is the head winemaker and continues her father’s tradition of reclaiming the soil by planting unique native varietals, such as Csókaszőlő. The winery was certified organic in 2018 and produces some of Hungary’s best wine using low-intervention methods, realizing Dr. Bussay’s vision of reinstating Zala as one of Hungary’s top wine regions 33 years later.
