Domaine Fontaine Gagnard
Burgundy
Domaine Fontaine Gagnard is one of Chassagne-Montrachet's most storied estates, built from the marriage of Richard Fontaine and Claire Gagnard—daughter of the legendary Jacques Gagnard—and today run with meticulous attention to the village's extraordinary limestone-clay terroir. The domaine's holdings read like a who's who of premier white Burgundy: Premier Crus La Maltroie, La Boudriotte, Les Vergers, and Les Cailleretes, crowned by Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, and—the summit of white Burgundy—Le Montrachet itself. Winemaking follows classic Chassagne traditions: careful sorting, gentle pressing, fermentation and aging in French oak with proportions of new wood calibrated to the wine's structure, and unhurried aging before release. The reds, including a fine Volnay Premier Cru Clos des Chênes, receive similar care and represent excellent value given the domaine's white-wine pedigree. This is a benchmark Chassagne estate producing wines of classic structure, fine texture, and extraordinary aging potential.
