Presqu'ile arose from the Murphys' penchant for fine wines, an inclination for adventure, and the discovery of Santa Maria Valley's ideal terroir. The property includes 73 acres of certified sustainably farmed vineyards on a 200 acre property where they craft Santa Maria Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah. To complement the estate production, Presqu'ile has partnered with top growers to source additional outstanding fruit.

Presqu'ile winery is a venture with deep roots. For over a century, four generations of the family have partnered in farming, forestry, oil and gas and conservation. Today, two generations of Murphys form the heart of Presqu'ile: Matt, Amanda, Jonathan, Lindsey, Anna, Madison and Suzanne, together with winemaker Dieter Cronje and vineyard manager Jim Stollberg.

Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay Presqu'ile Vineyard

As the Presqu'ile Vineyard site has gained maturity, the distinctive character of the Chardonnay has become apparent, and beginning with the 2013 vintage the winemakers felt it was time to broadcast this singular voice. The sandy soils of the estate result in a taut, mineral-laced expression of Chardonnay, an old-world sense of balance and tension allied to an aromatic and textural profile that is unmistakably Presqu’ile. The wine is 100% Chardonnay; Clones 4, 95, 124. Aging takes place in 33% new French oak barrels for 18 months. Alcohol is 13.33%.

Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir Presqu'ile Vineyard

This Pinot Noir comes exclusively from the Presqu'ile estate vineyard. The wine is fermented with 65% whole clusters from clones 115, 667, 777, Pommard, Mt. Eden. Aging takes place in 60% new French oak barrels for 18 months. Alcohol is 13.5%. 

Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay

The Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay displays the nuances of the sandy soils of western Santa Maria Valley. Presqu'ile employs traditional, natural techniques- native yeast fermentation, native malolactic conversion, sur lie aging, and light lees stirring- to elevate and enhance the distinctive character of this region. The wine is made from Chardonnay clones 131, 124, 76, 4, 96. Aging takes place in 15% new French oak barrels for 12 months and an additional 6 months in stainless steel. Alcohol %: 13.4.

Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir

The 2013 Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir offers what we consider the hallmarks of the AVA: balance, complexity and the ever-present “Santa Maria spice”. When compared to the single vineyard offerings, this wine is less tightly wound, offering early enjoyment. This Pinot Noir is fermented with 47% whole clusters - Clones 777, 667, 115. Aging takes place in 55% new French oak barrels for 18 months. Alcohol %: 13.1.

Santa Maria Valley Sauvignon Blanc

Comprised of 100% Presqu’ile Vineyard fruit, this wine captures the intensity and precision that only cool climate Sauvignon Blanc can deliver. Utilizing six unique clones not widely planted in California, Presqu'ile finds the complexity and interesting aromatics this clonal mixture provides to be utterly distinctive.

Native yeast fermentation in a combination of concrete egg, stainless steel and neutral French oak, sur lie aging, and light lees stirring capture and amplify the many different facets of our site, resulting in a wild, singular expression of Sauvignon Blanc. Alcohol %: 13.1.
